Day 1

Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley

Our 5-day Morocco tour begins with a pickup in Marrakech by our driver/guide, either at the airport or another agreed-upon location in the city. We’ll start our journey by heading toward the High Atlas Mountains, which we’ll cross via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass rising to about 2,200 meters above sea level. From autumn to spring, this route offers stunning views of snow-covered peaks during both the ascent and descent.

Once we’ve crossed the mountains, our first major stop will be the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This remarkably well-preserved adobe fortress is a prime example of ancient Berber defensive architecture and may look familiar to many as a filming location for season three of Game of Thrones.

Continuing past Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Morocco,” and the picturesque Taourirt Kasbah, we’ll travel along the famous “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs.” Our route takes us through the scenic Rose Valley and the striking Dades Valley. The day ends in the latter, where we’ll enjoy dinner and spend the night in a cozy, traditional riad.

Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Tinjdad and Touroug Palm Groves – Erfoud – Merzouga

After enjoying breakfast at the riad, we’ll hit the road once more this time with plenty of winding turns ahead. One of the day’s highlights is the Todra Gorges, where a modest river has carved dramatic cliffs and narrow passages, creating a stunning landscape through which the road winds.

On this second day of our 5-day Morocco tour, we’ll also visit the palm groves of Tinjdad and Touroug. Before that, we’ll make a brief stop in the charming town of Tinerhir. We’ll take the opportunity to explore parts of the palm groves on foot, soaking in the serene beauty of the area. Our journey then continues to Erfoud, a town known for its impressive fossil discoveries and renowned marble workshops.

As the day draws to a close, we’ll reach one of the most anticipated moments of the trip entering the magical Merzouga Desert and its majestic Erg Chebbi dunes. After parking our 4×4 vehicle, we’ll switch to the “8x8s” of the desert: dromedaries that will carry us across the golden sand to our tented camp.

As dawn breaks, the fine sand slowly turns a radiant gold while the stars fade until nightfall. After soaking in this spectacle, we’ll enjoy breakfast at the desert camp and ride back to Merzouga, where our vehicle is waiting. You’ll also have time for a refreshing shower either at the camp or a hotel, depending on your package.

Our first stop today is Rissani, a historic town famed for one of southern Morocco’s most charming medinas, where timeless scenes unfold such as its traditional “donkey parking lot.”

We then drive north through the Ziz Valley toward the Middle Atlas Mountains, revealing landscapes of exceptional beauty. Highlights include Ifrane nicknamed the “Moroccan Switzerland” for its chalet-style architecture and Cedars National Park, where towering cedar trees share the spotlight with the resident Barbary macaques.

Passing picturesque Berber villages (perfect for photo breaks), we reach our day’s final destination: Fez. Here, you’ll settle into a delightful riad in the heart of the city, enjoy dinner, and rest up for the adventures ahead.

Day 4

No express 5-day journey through Morocco would be complete without a full day dedicated to culture both scholarly and traditional. After breakfast at your riad, one of our licensed guides will lead you through the wonders and hidden corners of Fez. This imperial city is among the most stunning in Morocco, boasting a spectacular medina that has long been a major cultural and spiritual hub of the Islamic world.

During your guided tour, you’ll visit iconic landmarks such as the Karaouine Mosque, the Moulay Idriss Mausoleum, the Nejjarine Fountain, and the Bou Anania Medersa. You’ll also explore more vibrant, everyday parts of the city, like the famous Tanners’ Quarter, rich in color and tradition.

Following a morning immersed in Fez’s history, we’ll continue in the afternoon to one of North Africa’s most picturesque towns: Chefchaouen, or simply Chaouen. Renowned for its blue-and-white buildings, the town offers an almost dreamlike charm unlike anywhere else. We’ll visit panoramic viewpoints to admire its breathtaking location nestled in the mountains and stroll through its steep, winding streets.

Your time in Chefchaouen will be relaxed and enjoyable, with accommodation arranged in the town. You’ll end the day with a delicious dinner and a peaceful night’s rest.

The tour concludes either at Tangier International Airport for your return flight or at the port if you’re continuing on to Europe. While five days isn’t enough to explore all that Morocco has to offer, it’s certainly enough to create lasting memories.
